These Latin fashion Icons broke stereotypes in their own time and have been an inspiration All These Years.

If I asked you to name a couple of fashion icons, who would you say? Perhaps Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jane Birkin,Ā Brigitte Bardot, or even Alexa Chung…And I would agree with you 100%; their sense of style and unique personality have made them as iconic as they are. But let me talk you about the following Latin fashion icons.

These personalities, through their art and sense of style, have left a legacy in most Latin households. Why? Because they taught us to, just like them, bee unapologetically themselves. Let’s see who is on this countdown.

MarĆ­a FĆ©lix

A TRUE ICON! MarĆ­a FĆ©lix was a Mexican actress who was known as the Mexican diva during Mexico’s cinematographic golden age. She started her career after Spanish director Fernardo Palacios approached her while she was window shopping in Mexico City’s downtown and asked her if she was interested in making movies. And just like that, she was part of 47 movies in Mexican, Italian, and French productions.

Besides her performance skills, “La DoƱa” was highly known for her impeccable sense of fashion, wearing brands like Balenciaga, Dior, Saint Laurent, and jewelry house Cartier. All of which MarĆ­a FĆ©lix served as a muse for their designs.

Walter Mercado

Walter Mercado is probably one of the most beloved personalities in the Hispanic community in the USA. He was best known for his astrology program on Telemundo, in which he shared his predictions for each zodiac sign. Always filling our television with joy, positive energy and mucho mucho amor.

Walter was one of the first Latin TV personalities that was not afraid to show who he was. He was truly comfortable with this identity and sexuality which was unheard of in the Hispanic community. With his always over the top capes embellished with crystals, rhinestones and beadings.

Celia Cruz

Celia Cruz, worldwide known as the ā€œQueen of Salsa,ā€ was born on October 21, 1925, in Havana, Cuba. In 1950, she began to sing professionally with a Cuban orchestra called ā€œLa Sonora Matancera,ā€ and in 1960, after moving to New York, she began a series of musical collaborations with Tito Puente, Willie ColĆ³n, the Fania All-Stars, and others. Celia who constantly reinvented herself, also collaborated with musicians such as Marc Anthony, David Byrne, Gloria Estefan, Patti LaBelle, and hip-hop singer Wyclef Jean.

Fashion-wise, she was known for her unique and electrifying style. Celia wore some of the most unique and colorful dresses that were accompanied by wigs for each occasion. Up until this date, her sense of style is a reminder that fashion is supposed to be fun, and we should also have fun with it.

Bianca Jagger

Blanca PĆ©rez-Mora MacĆ­as, better known as Bianca Jagger, besides being a Latin fashion icon, is a social and human rights advocate and a former actress. This Nicaraguan beauty had the 1970s on a chokehold with her amazing sense of style and mesmerizing personality.

Muse for artists and designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Warhol, Bianca style is a synonym of elegance and glamour, with tailor suits, long coats, and wide-legged pants as the main pieces for each unique look she has been seen in.

Kouka Denis

Maria Gaspar, known as Kouka Denis, began her modeling journey as a young girl, inspired by fashion magazines from her mother’s native Spain. Encouraged by a family friend and designer, Jacques Dorian, Kouka ventured to Europe, captivating the haute couture world in Paris. She quickly became a muse for iconic designers like Yves Saint Laurent and Hubert de Givenchy, defining an era of 1960s fashion and establishing herself as the first Argentine supermodel.

With her trademark hairstyle, Kouka gained recognition and prominence, particularly as she became Yves Saint Laurent’s muse following Christian Dior’s passing. She also collaborated with Hubert de Givenchy.
