The universe of sunscreen brands is vast, but only these made the cut

I know, I know… there are tons of blog posts that cover which sunscreen brand is the best or most hyped on social media, but even though there are so many lists and rankings, there are so many options flooding the market that it can be overwhelming trying to make a decision.

That is why I’ve asked some of my friends which one is their go-to sunscreen brand, with the main purpose of sharing with you guys a perhaps more “honest” opinion on the matter that can serve as a guide to help you discover which sunscreen is worth trying out.

From lightweight formulas perfect for everyday wear to heavy-duty shields for long days under the sun, these are the sunscreen brands that are the current favorites for my friends and I.

For starters, what makes a good sunscreen? Well, according to the Academy of American Dermatology, you need to purchase a product that has the three following characteristics:

  1. Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays)
  2. SPF 30 or higher
  3. Water resistance

Adding to this three points, I would also add that you need a product that will match your lifestyle. Whether you’re lounging by the pool, hitting the hiking trails, or simply running errands around town, let’s ensure your skin stays shielded and radiant all year round. Let’s dive in!

Round Lab: We’re starting this list with a K-beauty product. (pretends to be shocked.) This is a product I’ve seen constantly on my FYP on all social media that is also hyped in South Korea. Actually, I first tried this while I was in Seoul. and I’m glad I did.

For starters, the product itself is a broad-spectrum sunscreen, which means it will protect you from UVA and UVB rays. The formula contains ingredients like birch juice and niacinamide, known for their antioxidant and calming effects on the skin.

This sunscreen is very lightweight; you can barely feel any texture on your skin, and it also absorbs quickly into the skin.

Moving on to another beloved sunscreen brand, we have Supergoop! Unscreen Suncreen. This sunscreen is one of my friends holy grails. According to her feedback, the formula, besides being odorless, feels a bit like silicone, which allows this product to double as a primer. From what I’ve read as well, it is a pro many users have found in this product.

Some of the listed ingredients include frankinsence, which helps strengthen the skin’s health and evens out its complexion.

Moving on to another well-known sunscreen brand, we have the always trustworthy Anthelios UVMUNE by La Roche-Posay.

This product was on all of my friends list but just like I did, we’ve been trying other products just to see what’s out there.

We all agreed that one of the things we liked the most is how lightweight the formula is and how fast your skin absorbs it without leaving any white cast.

For me, I have two things that I don’t enjoy: the size and I personally think it has a weird scent to it. But other than that I will return to this after trying new products.

Elta MD – UV Clear: Just like the Round Lab sunscreen, this product is also a broad-spectrum sunscreen that is targeted for more sensitive skin that is prone to acne or rosacea.

Another great thing is that it is odorless and paraben-free, among other characteristics that include ingredients such as niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and lactic acid, ingredients that promote the appearance of healthy skin.

SPECIAL MENTION:

  • Lightweight formula
  • Moisturizing effect
  • Contains hyaluronic acid and vitamin E.
  • Smooth application
  • SynchroShield technology, aim to repel water and sweat.
  • Easy to transport
  • SPF 50+
  • Slightly scented (this can be a con depending on the person)

There you have it. That is our list for the sunscreen brands that my friends and I find to right match for our skin. What is your go to sunscreen?
