With summer coming to an end, a transitional closet is just what you might need.
I don’t know how it is for you guys, but here in Mexico, summer has been heavily overshadowed by rains and coldness. Something quite unexpected for these months, tbh. But, I can’t deny that there’s something about this in-between season crisp mornings, afternoons still warm, and then, all of a suden, what started as the perfect summer outfit, now feels out of place. That’s where a transitional closet comes in.
When we talk about a transitional closet, we mean those in-between staples that might already have: the sweaters light enough for layering, the boots you can wear with dresses or denim, and the jackets that work rain or shine. They’re the glue between seasons, and the pieces you’ll actually reach for over and over again.
With that in mind, here are a few worth keeping on repeat (and yes, they’ll actually get worn, not just admired on the hanger).
1. The Lightweight Trench
Not too heavy, not too bulky, a trench is the ever classic of jackets. Throw it over denim, a slip dress, or even gym clothes and it instantly looks put-together. You can also play with the lenght of the trench coat depending on your style. Easy and stylish.

2. The Layer-Friendly Knit
Think fine merino or cotton sweaters you can layer under a blazer or over a dress. The perfect piece to keeps you warm withouth having to look bulky or super hot after wearing for 5 minutes. Bonus points for a neutral color that goes with everything.

3. The Everyday Blazer
Oversized enough to fit a sweater underneath, sharp enough to wear with tailored pants. It’s the piece that makes jeans and a tee feel like a full on fall outfit, same thing goes for a dress look.

4. The Midi Skirt
I piece I wish I could pull off but I’m too short. Anyway… this floaty but not too summery fashion item, is the perfect balance between looking polished but not too formal. A midi skirt works with flats or sneakers now and boots later, one of the hardest-working items you can own.

5. The White Button-Up
A timeless classic this is a not only breathable, but and endlessly adaptable piece. Wear it open over a tank, tucked into denim, with a skirt or half-buttoned with layered jewelry. It is the ideal piece to have regardless of the season and style.

6. The Ankle Boot
My personal favorite on a transitional closet. Boots are perfect for styling your looks whether it’s a pair of trousers, dresses or skirts. I mean, I even use them during summer, but when nights starto feel chilly, these are warriors specially if it’s raining. You’ll wear them nonstop and also even you pair them up with black tights. Go for that Tumblr aesthetic.

Now, these are just a couple of ideas and a couple of them are some of my favorites but, when in doubt, stick to a base of neutrals and add personality through accessories: a colorful scarf, a textured belt, or statement earrings can transform the same staples day after day.
Remember, these is meant to be a quick guide of pieces that could work as part of your transitional closet. If you want more inspo, remember that Pinterest is also a great place to find ideas and onverall inspo. At the end, transitional staples are about ease. They’re the pieces you can grab without overthinking, knowing they’ll work no matter the weather or occasion.
